Caribbean

The Carribean universe, where we find the province of Limón, is characterized by a great cultural diversity. Although its population is predominantly African black descendents, the visitor may also note the influence of important cultural features from various other ethnic groups, such as the Costa Rican Aborigines, the Afro Caribbean from the West Indies, the Hispanics of Spanish descent, and the Chinese. Each of these groups contributes to the very unique style that characterizes this zone..

In this region you will find beaches in all the different hues of sand, as well as national parks that shelter humid tropical forests and coral reefs. In addition you will experience hundreds of different species of flora and fauna, some of which are in danger of extinction.

Parque Nacional Tortuguero (Tortuguero National Park), located in this zone, embraces the largest sample of protected humid tropical forest in the world. Here, you will be able to explore its exuberant forest lined rivers and man-made canals, observe its flora and fauna, or enjoy the unique experience of marine turtles nesting. Here, too, you will have the opportunity to observe more than 300 different species of birds, among which you will find the Great Green Macaw, the Great Curassow, and the beautiful toucans.

And if you wish to visit a site considered as a patrimony of the world, this region also offers you Parque Internacional La Amistad (La Amistad International Park). This is a place of exceptional scientific value, of conservation and of natural beauty.
The Caribbean hosts an environment characterized by calypso and reggae music, as well as by a delicious cuisine based on coconut. Surfing, deep-sea diving, surface snorkeling, yacht tours, horseback or bicycle tours, and great fishing are some of the activities that await you in the Caribbean sector of Costa Rica
