All surfing enthusiasts dream about Costa Rica. The warm temperatures of the water and the size, frequency, and perfect shape of the waves attract thousands of surfers from around the world every year.

The most important beaches for surfing categorized by climate conditions and geographic location are:

  • The Caribbean Zone: Manzanillo, Puerto Viejo, Black, Cahuita, Westfalia, Uvita Island, and the northern Caribbean coast in general.



  • The Northern Pacific Zone: Potrero, Naranjo, Grande, Tamarindo, Langosta, Avellanas, Negra, Nosara, Coyote.

  • The Central Pacific Zone: Mal País, Cabuya, Boca Barranca, Puerto Caldera, Tivives, Escondida, Jacó, Roca Loca, Hermosa, Esterillos Este and Esterillos Oeste, Bejuco, Boca Damas, Quepos, Espadilla, and El Rey.

  • The Southern Pacific Zone: Dominical, Drake Bay, Matapalo, Pavones, and Punta Burica.
